Pennon

A **pennon** is a small, tapering or triangular flag, in medieval heraldry the personal flag of a knight bachelor, fixed to the head of a lance. Pennons bore the knight’s device and were carried into battle. In modern vexillology the term is sometimes used for small triangular or pointed flags, and survives in military traditions such as cavalry lance pennons.

**Example**: A British lancer regiment’s pennon, red over white, was traditionally fixed below the head of the lance.
