Pan-Iranian colors

The **pan-Iranian colours** are green, white and red, the three bands of the modern flag of Iran and the historical tricolour of Persia introduced in the nineteenth century. The colours are associated with Islam, peace and courage respectively, and have been taken up by peoples of the wider Iranian cultural world. Their use ties together flags whose political histories are otherwise distinct.

**Example**: The flags of Iran and of Tajikistan both employ a horizontal arrangement of green, white and red.
