A **cross** in vexillology is a charge consisting of two intersecting bars, usually one horizontal and one vertical. The cross is among the oldest and most widely used flag devices. Forms include the Greek cross (with arms of equal length), the Latin cross (with a longer lower arm), and the Nordic cross (with the vertical arm displaced toward the hoist).
**Example**: The flag of Switzerland bears a plain white Greek cross on a red field, while the Dannebrog of Denmark bears a white Nordic cross.
