A **swallow-tail** is a flag whose fly-end is cut into two tapering points separated by a triangular indentation, suggestive of a swallow’s tail. The shape is associated with cavalry guidons, certain ecclesiastical banners, and the state and naval ensigns of the Nordic countries, where the swallow-tail with a central tongue is a mark of state or military use.
**Example**: The state and war flag of Denmark is a swallow-tailed and tongued version of the Dannebrog.
